The Miami Heat had traded former star center Shaquille O’neal to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks just days ago. Today was Shawn Marion’s debut with the Miami Heat, a game against the much improved Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant. But the center of attention in the game was the matchup between the 2 allstars Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, 2006 Finals MVP.

Early in the game, both players were quiet. Bryant had 5 points on 2-3 shooting and Wade had 2 points on 1-6 shooting. It wasn’t the same way in the 2nd half. Turning his game on in the 2nd half, Bryant shot 6-10 with an aggressive mindset while shutting down Wade at the other end. Wade continued to struggle putting up 9 turnovers. He also had an airball, was dropped by Sasha Vujacic, and was outmatched by Bryant’s lockdown defense which was at it’s finest at the end of the 3rd quarter. Bryant frustrated Wade to the point he commited a hard foul on Bryant on a fastbreak dunk attempt. He committed a hard foul that could have and should have been a flagrant foul had it been another player and not Wade. It was a foul that also could have been a suspension.

Even the preferential treatment of Dwyane Wade was no match for Kobe Bryant’s dominance. Examples of preferential treatment is the first foul on Bryant, a fly by on a three point attempt by Wade, and a foul on Lamar Odom on an attempted layup by Wade. Despite several other attempts by the refs to bring Miami back into the game, the Lakers prevailed and enjoyed a 104-94 victory over the Miami Heat who fell to 9-40. The Los Angeles Lakers improved to 33-17 and 3-1 with Pau Gasol.

The IDF operation continued overnight with large infantry, tank, engineering, artillery and intelligence forces operating throughout the Gaza Strip, along with the assistance of the Israel Air Force and the Israel Navy.

During exchanges of fire overnight (Jan. 3), dozens of armed Hamas operatives were hit by the IDF. IAF planes struck over 45 targets including tunnels, weapons storage facilities, mortar shell launching squads, and a number of mortar shell launching sites.

Israel Navy boats assisted the ground forces and attacked a number of targets including the Hamas intelligence headquarters in Gaza City, rocket launching sites, and Hamas marine force outposts.

An IDF officer and an IDF soldier were severely wounded during the night. The families of the injured officer and soldier have been notified.

In addition, 28 other soldiers were injured moderately and lightly. The soldiers received initial medical treatment at the scene and were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The IDF will continue to operate against the Hamas terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip according to plan in order to reduce the rocket fire on the south of Israel.

Book: “Yurichika e” (Dear Yurichika) by Akiko Terenin.

Akiko Terenin was 5 months pregnant when she was diagnosed with spinal cancer. The tumor was inmediately removed but she needed chemotherapy after the surgery. The doctor said they better give up on the baby and start the treatment inmediately, because there was a high risk of metastasis. 　But start the chemotherapy would mean expose the baby to damage.
So she decides to delay the treatment.
…”I promised your daddy to give him a healthy baby.”

After the baby was born she starts the treatment but soon they find a new big tumor in a different place. Her chances were minimal. So she starts writing all the things she wants to tell her daughter.

Her words were very touching so i’m going to write some of them. (Please excuse my english)

“Yurichika, when you smile you are so gorgeous that makes me happy just to see you. I want to continue watching you smile for long time, but I dont know what is going to happen so im going to write the things i want to tell you.”

The chapters go like “about daddy, about friends, about fights, about school, about being a girl, etc.”

“About dressing up. I want you to enjoy dressing up. and I want you to get very very pretty. There are a lot of wonderful things you can enjoy when you are a girl. I wish i could help you! Doing your hair in a different style everyday. And making you wear all kind of clothes. Mom would want to enjoy it too.”
“I have some jewels, you can use them. I’m going to tell well to your daddy that girls cost money.”

“About fights. I dont think you’re going to have fist fights because you are a girl. But i guess you would have some fights. I heard that nowadays young people hold their pain until commiting *******. How silly! Most of the things arent reason enough to die, they should just run away!”
“People are born alone and die alone. It’s sad. But we are alone in the end. Thats why you must spend your lifetime with the ones you love and enjoy it fully!!”

In the last weeks she couldnt write anymore so she recorded her words on tapes…

“Mom’s body doesnt get well… I had Yurichika, and my baby really really needs a mother… I have many many things i want to tell you. And many things i want to talk with you. But seems like mom wont be able to live together with you… Mom doesnt want to die… I dont want to die…”

She concludes her book with these words. “Yuria, you are the reason of my life.”

I wanted to share her story. I hope i could transmit her words correctly.
